Once List Price: $14.98 Sale Price: $5.84 Used From: $3.90 |

Movie DVD Winner of the World Audience Award at Sundance, Once starts out as a small-scale romance, like Before Sunrise, before arriving somewhere unexpected. An Irish busker (Glen Hansard, the Frames and The Commitments) meets a Czech flower seller (Markéta Irglová) while singing on the streets of Dublin. (In the credits, they're listed as Guy and Girl.) She likes what she hears and lets him know. Turns out she's a musician, too. They work on a few songs together and a friendship is forged. She lives with her widowed mother, who doesn't speak English. He lives with his widowed father, who owns a repair shop. Since he broke up with his girlfriend, the guy has been drifting, unable and unwilling to get his life in order. The girl encourages him to pursue a record deal, and the guy emerges from his funk. Then he makes a move on the girl, who rejects his advances. He's confused, but as he comes to find, there's a reason she's keeping her distance. Though Once is filled with appealing folk-pop by Hansard and Irglová (released on CD as The Swell Season), the movie isn't a traditional musical, but rather a more optimistic Brief Encounter. Filmmaker John Carney, Hansard's former bandmate, captures the real city--in all its affluence and poverty--rather than the picture postcard version. His beautifully shot film serves as a heartfelt ballad about all the underclass Guys and Girls swept aside amidst Ireland's economic miracle. --Kathleen C. Royal Vacuum Cleaners are aptly named, because they are fit for a king. Now, I don’t know many kings who do their own housework (quite frankly, I don’t know that many kings at all), but I do know that everyone wants their house to look as clean as a palace and none of us have the staff. So what you need to clean your own castle is a hard working, reliable machine. Founded in the principality of Cleveland, Ohio over 100 years ago, Royal has built a reputation of doing just that.
Royal has multiple cleaning systems in its vacuum line. Many brands use a “one system for all” for all its entire line. However, depending on the need, this may not be the best way to buy a vacuum. Royal Vacuum Cleaners come in a bag line, a canister, and installed vacuum cleaners and they are designed to be efficient. Royal does not compromise on materials; all parts in the machine are built to last.
There are four lines of upright Royal Vacuum Cleaners. The Eminence Vacuums are made for easy pushing. They come with HEPA filters to clean the air as well as the rug. There are lightweight brands with that are powerful and weight under 15 pounds. They are lightweight but not light in features.
The Royal Privilege vacuum is a premium vacuum with a powerful engine that will ensure that all the dirt will get in the bag and stay in the bag. It also comes with a HEPA filter. The attachments will allow you to clean in crevices and corners. The Everlast Series, with their bell shaped metal nozzle and large bags, are the standard in solid construction. They are self propelling with five peddle adjustments available.
The Royal Vacuum Cleaner canister machines have the features you want in a canister vacuum. The Lexon vacuums are modern looking with enough attachments to clean any floor or rug. The Lexon comes with either 10.5 or 14 inch nozzle. The Procision is a sturdy model with a full set of attachments.
If you are looking for a complete system, Royal has a full range of installed vacuums for rooms ranging from 2,500 to 12,000 square feet. The installed systems come with a complete line of tools to clean every room in the house. The Royal Vacuum Cleaner installed models ideal for any new home.
Finally, if you want to keep your carpets looking like new, the carpet extractor will give your rugs deep cleaning. The system has an agitation system to thoroughly scrub every strand of carpet. The Royal Vacuum Cleaner Extractor also comes with a hose to clean stairs and furniture.
As you can see, whether it is a simple clean up or a spring cleaning, Royal Vacuum Cleaners will make your home look its best.
There are a lot of different types of vacuum cleaners on the market today, all with different features, attachments, filtering systems, etc. Choosing one can be confusing and difficult. In order to choose the best vacuum cleaner for your needs, consider the following four factors.
1) What type of vacuum cleaner is best for your floors? In general, if your home is made up of mostly hard surfaced floors like tile or wood, a bagless canister vacuum cleaner would best suit your needs. The bagless units are much better at doing these types of floors but are not great for carpet. They are, however, very good for stairs because they are much easier to maneuver. For carpet and large areas, an upright unit will work best.
2) Types of attachments. The attachments that come with the vacuum you buy are expensive. The more attachments that are included, the more expensive the vacuums will be. Most people use two or less attachments on a consistent basis and the rest of the attachments sit in the closet. The best vacuum cleaner for you to buy will only come with attachments you will use.
3) Filtering system. Everyone has heard of the hepa filter, (High Efficiency Particulate Air System). But there are several filters that work just as well. Choose one that can filter out what's important to you. There are some that specialize in removing vacuums. Some get great reviews and ratings for removing dirt from the ground and air. Others, especially commercial vacuums, can filter out moisture.
4) Name. Is a top brand name like Oreck, Eureka or Kirby important to you or would you rather save a few bucks on a lesser known unit that gets good ratings? The main thing here is to look at the specifics of the warranty.

Consumer reports on vacuum cleaners can be very valuable for helping people decide on what specific vacuum cleaner to buy. The people who own the vacuum and use it all the time can provide great information on how well it works, how durable it is, what problems there are with it, etc. Below is a list of topics that should be discussed in good consumer reports on vacuum cleaners.
The ability to easily maneuver the vacuum cleaner is a big positive and can be the difference between the user loving it and hating it. Getting the unit around the house easily is an important factor. Look for reports that mention maneuverability and how easy or difficult it is to get the vacuum in hard to reach places or up and down the stairs.
Also look for consumer reports on vacuum cleaners that mention the power of the suction. You can only learn so much about the power of the vacuum based on the amps count. Most manufacturers list this number on the box to give consumers an idea of how powerful the machine will be. However, there are several other factors that influence suction power and how well built each individual machine is, is a big factor.
You want to find out what users are saying about the filter of the cleaner. Removing allergens and dust mites from the air and floor is an important part of a vacuum's job. The vacuum cleaner can only do this as well as the filter and filter system in it performs.

Title: Home Renovations DIY
Author: Colin Jones
Article: It appears that there has been a decline in consumer trust in the building and construction industry recently. This may be because of the scams shown on television or the bribery and corruption rampant in the corporate sector, but it is almost certainly the same reason why so many are now doing home improvements by themselves.
And why shouldn't they? A little knowledge of the technical aspects combined with an eye for creativity is often enough to complete the home improvement on your own.
Why are people turning to DIY home improvements?
There are many people attempting to pass themselves off as construction workers, although they do not have a lot of experience in construction or home maintenance and they are literally are out there right now practising, learning their trades on homes like yours and mine around the country.
Not surprisingly, homeowners are finding that the jobs are not being completed to their liking. Sometimes they are even pre-paying for services that do not get done or were not part of the plan.
You do not have to trust and pay someone to improve your home. Why not have a go yourself?
You can augment your home?s existing concrete surfaces using acid stains, acrylic paints, epoxy paints, and scoring techniques.
If you are tired of looking at drab gray concrete, there are some easy projects if you are sincere about having a go at home improvement DIY, you can easily give your patio, driveway or garage a revitalizing new look.
Decorative concrete work costs about double that of normal concrete, which is why a lot of people cannot afford it.
However, there are inexpensive methods to beautify concrete after it has cured, without having to pay skilled tradesmen.
Acid-based concrete stains are becoming more and more fashionable for coloring concrete surfaces. They chemically react with the fibres in the cement material to produce permanent color with a variegated or mottled appearance similar to that of marble. This results in a natural, stylish looking surface.
Water-based concrete stains are an alternative to acid stains but are much more user friendly because they are so much less toxic. These stains do not chemically react with the concrete; they are absorbed into the porous surface and act like a colorant. The big advantage of water based stains is the wide range of colors on hand.
If you want to venture beyond the basic staining of your concrete, think about using some scoring techniques to create patterns on the surface.
You can make your concrete resemble a tiled floor for example. It is just up to your imagination. A mini angle grinder with a 4 inch cutting wheel is the perfect tool for this.
The important thing to remember when scoring is to trace out the pattern on the concrete first and make sure you are satisfied with the way it looks because scoring is permanent.
Epoxy paints make an excellent coating for garage floors and cellar floors. Many industrial floors have epoxy coatings because of their hardiness and resilience to chemical spills as well as their appearance.
In recent years, however, it has become very popular for residential use with the availability of an growing number of different colors. This is not a complicated project, but the key to successful application is surface groundwork.
Epoxy paints have also become available in a water based form making it safe for the DIY'er and perfect for indoor applications. They cost a little more than stains. For a 400 square foot area, you'll pay out about $200 for the materials needed for this job.
So, you see? You do not have to spend big money to improve your home. You have the ability to do it yourself. With some instructions and a little bit of work, anyone can turn dull concrete into a masterpiece of their own.

Selecting the right vacuum cleaner should be a relatively easy job wouldn't you think? Don't they all basically work the same? Well, you would think so! But it's often a good idea to see what leading consumer testing groups determined during their product evaluations.
Consumer Reports did just that and thoroughly tested a number of popular vacuum cleaners. After putting these machines through their paces, testing on a variety of surfaces and conditions, a clear winner should be determined. Right? You would think so but it boggles the mind even after all this in-depth testing, their results and recommendations don't jive with customer feedback. Turns out the testing team may not rank a model very high but reviews submitted by owners of the product showed a completely different story.
So much for scientific testing!
Although there may be conflicting advice as to which is the 'best' vacuum cleaner to buy, here are some basic tips to keep in mind when you're out shopping for a new model.
A basic question is how long is the manufacturer's warranty? Vacuums do break down so a lengthy warranty is also a plus. Especially if you're laying out big dollars to purchase a high-end model.
Some budget-priced vacuums loose their appeal quickly when they encounter frequent breakdowns. That great 'deal' isn't so if it needs to be replaced every year or two.
Something else to look for is the length of the hose. Does it extend out far enough for those extra jobs you want to accomplish like cleaning the stairs or sweeping out the car? Will it reach the top of your curtains? Is it equipped with the attachments you'll need to do a thorough cleaning job? Crevice cleaners, dust brushes and smaller brush heads can greatly assist in specialized clean-up tasks.
If you'll be cleaning bare floors, do the roller brushes turn off? Rapidly rotating brush heads can scratch the surface of hardwood floors. "Beater brushes" are great for pulling up ground in dirt but some models do a poor job of cleaning close to baseboards. A model with an edge cleaner lets you get right up close to obstacles for a more thorough cleaning.
If you're selecting a 'bag' model, make sure your local retailer carries the make and size you'll need. If not, you'll have to order them through the mail and that can be a major inconvenience. Vacuum cleaner bags come in a very wide assortment depending on the make and model of your unit. Your local store may carry the brand name but be sure they also stock dust bags for your particular model type.
If you opt to forgo the bag-type cleaners, there's still some replacement costs involved. Many models have filters that need to be changed periodically. A high-end unit may require expensive replacement filters too. So you'll also need to check out where these specially-designed filters may be purchased.
Vacuum cleaners come in two basic models: Canister and Upright. Canisters work exceptionally well on hard floors and stairs, but effectiveness varies greatly on carpet. Canisters tend to cost more than an upright and are not as maneuverable due to their large size and weight. Canisters can be very cumbersome if your cleaning duties involve relocating the unit up and down stairs.
The top-rated canister vacuum when tested by Consumer Reports went to the Kenmore Intuition 28014. This Kenmore model allows carpet height adjustments, brushes that can be disengaged for bare floors and is also equipped with a full-bag indicator.
The cord on the Intuition is retractable and has a HEPA filter for cleaning the air as well. This recommended canister vacuum has a list price around $600 and weighs 26 lbs.
Uprights perform admirably on bare floors and like their canister cousins, results on carpets are varied. Effective cleaning also requires sufficient power achieved via the hose and attachments.
Consumer Reports tested a number of upright vacuum cleaners and the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition U6485-900 edged out the competition in head-to-head testing. This is unit collects dirt and debris with a dust bag.
This Hoover model is self-propelled making maneuvering the WindTunnel an easy task. It's equipped with a HEPA filter, full-bag indicator, and the brushes can be turned off to protect hardwood floors.
Consumer Reports labeled the Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Edition a Recommended buy. Prices vary considerably ($180-$280) so be sure to shop around for the best deal.
